In this essay we are going to talk about the values of caring and patience to “Self-Reliance” by writer Ralph Waldo Emerson. To start this essay, we need the definition of the values to give context so it is easier to understand. Being caring means feeling or showing concern for or kindness to others, and being patient means bearing pains or trials calmly or without complaint. Our story is about being a self-reliant person, meaning to be confident about your individuality that you don’t need other humans to define who you are. It means you are an independent person, you think for yourself and you decide what to do with your life. The two values, care and patience are not mentioned by the author in the story, but we can learn this two values thanks to self reliance which is the main objective of the author’s essay. When you get rid of people who wan to control your life, you start to care more for other people who like you for you and do not try to tell you what you can or can not do. You can see patience in this essay because the author writes that you can not care about people’s opinions in your life, and to do that you have to have a lot of patience, a person has to ignore them and move on, even if its is really hard, the only way to learn to think for yourself is that. A man has to survive the bad and sour faces of people who judge him, and to do so, he must be extremely patient. In the story, something that is shown a lot is accept yourself and learn to live with yourself, and that requires both of the values we are talking about, caring and patience. But more patient than caring, because when you decide to be self reliant person you have to take your time learning to know your self. Patience can also be in this essay because the author says that people who are self reliant are the people who reach successs and you need to be patient in the journey to success, working on yourself to reach your goals and your dreams in life. in my opinion i think that the value of patience was included more in the story than that one of caring, but can be seen sometimes in things like self-love, which you can learn by reading this story. I learned through reading this story, that when you don't bother with what people say and you have patience in you, which you can learn by thinking for yourself, you become a better person with more values than the people who don't think for themselves and do what other people do because they have no personality. The author does not mention them but that does not mean he doesn't support being caring or patient and The story pays more attention to other values than to patience and caring, but if you study self reliance you can learn a lot about them.
